You have four different options for getting affordable health care coverage:
- You can enroll in a plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace (or BeWellNM.com in New Mexico) during open enrollment, from November 1, 2019 through December 15, 2019.
- You can buy a plan directly from a health care company or from an insurance producer who may represent several companies and who can help you shop for the best plan. Find local help.
- You can enroll in an employer-sponsored plan if your employer offers group coverage. Be sure to ask your employer if they provide health insurance.
- You may be able to qualify for a government plan. When you apply for health coverage on the Health Insurance Marketplace (or BeWellNM.com in New Mexico) you may find that you qualify for a low-cost or government program, such as Medicaid (low-income or disabled individuals), Medicare (for those over 65 years, or younger people with a disability, or those with End-Stage Renal Disease), the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Military Health Insurance for Veterans, or programs for American Indians and Alaska Natives. The Annual Election Period for changes to a Medicare plan take place between October 15 and December 7. Any changes you make are effective January 1. Supplemental Medicare Insurance, also known as Medigap, has different enrollment guidelines.
